promise to families.
At Kanata North, we know childhood is a treasured time. We believe it is our responsibility to provide environments and experiences that capture the joys of childhood, nurture each child’s individual growth and development, and pave the way for success in school and life.

Belonging
Every child has a sense of belonging when s/he is connected to others and contributes to their world.
Our program offers security, sense of belonging, affection and strong relationships between educators, children, and their families in order to allow each child to thrive and develop to their full potential. We foster the children’s exploration, play and inquiry; and incorporate indoor and outdoor play, as well as active play, rest and quiet time, into the day, and give consideration to the individual needs of the children receiving childcare.
We believe that: Each interaction and communication with children in a positive way is an opportunity to support their ability to self-regulate. We plan carefully for easy transition between activities and programs
Well-being
Every child is developing a sense of self, health, and well-being.
Our programs seek to stimulate children’s Well-Being. Our programs nurture children’s healthy development and support their growing sense of self. We encourage curiosity and nurturing well-rounded healthy growth for all children based on their individual levels of development throughout the day by providing:
- Developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning activities within positive environments. Being active exploring the nature.
- Respect for each child’s culture and traditions. Provide positive reinforcement for trying new foods. We provide healthy meals prepared on site by a certified cook. Following the Canada food guide for all meals and snacks. Our menu has been reviewed by a Dietitian.
- A program that addresses each child’s need for fun, creativity, active play (indoor and outdoor), communication skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills, cognitive growth, social interaction, rest, and nutrition. The environment is treated as third teacher. Children are supported in setting up the environment and staff are making sure all materials are available to them. Children are encouraged to value teamwork, interdependence, and group play. Toddlers and infants are separated from other children during active indoor and outdoor play time.

Engagement
Every child is an active and engaged learner who explores the world with body, mind, and senses.
We emphasize child-initiated and adult-supported experiences learning within a culturally diverse community. Children learn to relate to their peers, and to trust and respond to others. Children learn to understand and respect all cultural traditions. We provide children easy access to all materials. We use open ended questions which support inquires. We post observations on child’s developmental achievements.
We foster links between children, their families and the broader community as there is an understanding of the valuable contribution other resources (the Librarian comes every month for story time and songs) can make towards the development (we invite Ottawa U. Science students to give workshops about science topics) and support of each child learning experiences.
The staff observe and document (storyboards, graphs, and photos) illustrate how the approaches are being implemented into the program.
Expression
Every child is a capable communicator who expresses himself or herself in many ways.
Every person, regardless of age, deserves to be treated with respect. We support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents, childcare providers, and staff. Every Friday, children are encouraged to participate in show and tell in front of their peers and educators. Annually children get to show their parents their achievement books
We believe that our childcare staff offer support and encouragement to families and respect their wishes, and that quality childcare requires staff who are well-educated and have a commitment to both child and family.
An opportunity for family members to actively participate in strong partnerships with teachers to share an understanding of our program and each child’s individuality and to build an accurate picture of their strengths, abilities, and overall development. Parents are always asked to give suggestions and feedback. Our newsletter is an open window for parents on our Centre’s activities and news.
We support staff or others who interact with the children at KNELC to participate in Workshops and online learning in relation to continuous professional learning.

Goals
Every child is an active and engaged learner who explores the world with body, mind, and senses.
Goals for the program begin with the desire to provide and promote the health, safety, nutrition, and well-being of the children in a safe, educationally, and socially enriching environment. We believe that: Each interaction and communication with children in a positive way is an opportunity to support their ability to self-regulate. We plan carefully for easy transition between activities and programs
- Support positive and responsive interactions among the children, parents, childcare providers and staff; Documenting children's learning developments by using pictorial and written observations.
- Encourage the children to interact and communicate in a positive way and support their ability to self-regulate; collaborating with children to solve problems and modelling positive, appropriate behaviour.
- Foster the children’s exploration, play and inquiry; support children during uninterrupted time for seamless play and give them the leadership role.
- Provide child-initiated and adult-supported experiences; educators are interested on what the children are doing not the objects that they are using. We value children's ideas.
- Plan for and create positive learning environments and experiences in which each child’s learning and development will be supported; provide longer periods of play schedule.
- Incorporate indoor and outdoor play, as well as active play, rest and quiet time, into the day, and give consideration to the individual needs of the children receiving childcare; children are free to move materials as they imagine. We identify children's emotional need, and we help them solve the problemsI
- Foster the engagement of an ongoing communication with parents about the program and their children; family picture wall, invite parents to the room to share their traditions, celebrations and cultures. Parents are encouraged to offer their thoughts and inputs.
- Document and review the impact of the strategies set out in clauses (a) to (j) on the children and their families. By using the Monitoring form, staff will be able to recognize their strong and weak points and build a strategy with the help of the Director to Implement the centre's Program statement Policies and Procedures.
Prohibited Practices
The Center manages behaviour in two ways: it makes certain that the childcare environment in the center is organized and maintained in a manner that supports positive childcare behaviour, and it ensures that staff members in the child care center use only positive behaviour management practices that comply with the law and are compatible with current child development practices, to manage both appropriate and inappropriate child behaviour.
